Lewis Hamilton: Nicolas Hamilton remembers F1 legend

Nicolas Hamilton spent most of his time in F1 testing vehicles and travelling the world during his career

Nicolas Hamilton has paid tribute to Lewis, who passed away on Friday aged 37, saying he was “only just getting started”.

Former world champion Lewis was “addicted” to F1, working on projects such as winning the track fitness test and a diet treatment programme.

Hamilton, 49, is now a top fitness coach and trainer, having spent most of his F1 career testing cars in a role he called “minority experience”.

“Lewis only just getting started,” he said.

“My first driving lesson after the disqualification in 1996, I told him I’d drive him to the offices after practice and show him around the area,” he said.

“Little did I know it was going to be years of driving lessons with him from around the world and thousands of miles driving the cars we have now.

“His passion for the sport, for people and for exercise was second to none. All he did was work hard and obviously he worked really hard and with joy.

“I’ve heard there will be a lot of great things to be said in his memorial service on Wednesday.

“He was only just getting started. His next challenge I have no doubt will be to do the same. What a great young man Lewis was.”
